Arts Club Backstage Lounge

Off-Stage Amusement
1585 Johnston Street
(Granville Island)
Vancouver, BC V6H 3R9
Canada
+1 604 687 1354
http://www.artsclub.com/onstag...
This lounge is a popular place for a creative crowd. Nightly shows make the watering hole a prime locale to enjoy live musical and comedy acts. The menu is predominantly West Coast-style cuisine: spicy chicken wings or large platters of nachos with dip are popular orders at less than CAD10. With the large variety of liquor lining the bar's back wall, it is obvious that drinks are this institution's specialty. Locally brewed ales are constantly in demand and worth a taste. See website for complete menu and monthly entertainment calendar.

Vancouver, BC V6Z 1L5

This downtown Irish pub has all the fixings to make you feel as if you've transported yourself back across the Atlantic. Along with the classic pub facade, the all-wooden bar, and the dark lighting, this pub has also combined some American feel to it with regular Football and Baseball matches being shown as well as serving a wide variety of American cuisine that you'd only expect from a bar.

New Millennium Nibbling Bar

Vancouver, BC V6Z 1B9
Canada

Here is a concept: serve artfully-crafted and savoury appetizer dishes to loads of hungry, hip people in a tiny and crowded Downtown space. The result? Instant success. Partnered with its uptown incarnation, Bin 942, this youthful establishment is packed full with old benches, church pews and 'found objects'. The tapas menu includes treats like Coconut-Steamed Mussels and Crab Cakes sprinkled over with burnt-orange chipotle.

Bodega Restaurant & Tapas Bar

Tapas original since 1971
1277 Howe Street
Vancouver, BC V6Z 1R3
Canada
+1 604 684 8815
This downtown Spanish restaurant began serving tapas, the popular small-plate shareables, in 1971. It has lots of brick walls and wood accents, while prints of Picasso's Don Quixote, wind swept beaches, and even a bull's head adorn the walls. There are three dining areas, with Spanish embellishments highlighting each. Try the piquant Patatas Bravas and the locally famous and thirst-quenching Sangria. Choose from the wide selection of cold and hot tapas, from simple White Rice to Spiced Rabbit.

Small modern cafe
3162 West Broadway
Vancouver, BC V6K 2H3
Canada

This is one of the newer culinary additions to Kitsilano's Broadway area. With its vaulted ceilings, immense bar, black vinyl seating and deep crimson walls, it is a comfortable place to relax and maybe read a good book. Although the menu lists standard fare such as burgers and chicken, the real specialty is the tapas selection. The delectable yam fries are a local favorite. A typical meal is quite reasonably priced.

Where do off-duty chefs go for tapas? This Robson Street restaurant. The décor features individual table and banquette seating, and an open kitchen and bar. Subtle lighting and soft jazz soothe the senses. Start with the tomato, bocconcini and avocado salad, then try the house specialty: scallops seared with pickled ginger, lime and mirin cream. The highlight here is the large menu of tapas-style dishes infused with garlic in sweet, pungent and creamy concoctions. Contemporary art hangs on creamy yellow walls and dark wood chairs encircle white-linen covered tables. Begin with the signature Roasted Garlic and Chicken Dijon Soup, then try the Black Sesame Sea Bass and Garlic Mashed Yam with Soya Chili Oil. The diverse tapas-style menu is perfect for sharing: roasted candied garlic or stuffed green olives with garlic and asiago cheese.
