Late 1800s parksite |
1416-40 Haro Street Vancouver, BC V6G 1G2 Canada +1 604 665 3331 http://vancouver.ca/nmi_wac/nm... |
The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation created this historical park to preserve the nine heritage houses that date back from the late 1890s. The Barclay side of the West End park has kept its original neighbourhood character and scale, thanks to Barclay Manor. The Roedde House Museum and the Weeks House are found on either side. The former is Vancouver's first house museum while the latter is occupied by 'Friends For Life' - an organization that provides assistance for persons with life-threatening illnesses. Diverse Downtown Neighbourhood |
Denman and Davie Streets Vancouver, BC V6G 1Y9 Canada http://www.englishbay.com |
English Bay is one of Vancouver's most diverse neighbourhoods. Located in downtown's West End, it's where the energetic action of Denman and Davie streets converges. The area is a popular venue for outdoor activities like in-line skating, cycling, walking the seawall, running, and jogging. There are bookstores, gift shops, fashion and cosmetic retailers and other specialty shops; and an eclectic fusion of culinary arts and eateries with clientele to match. Some of the city's best dine-with-a-view restaurants can be found here. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Elegant Victorian manor |
1523 Davie Street (West End) Vancouver, BC V6G 3A2 Canada |
American sugar baron BT Rogers built this Victorian stone manor in 1900. Originally, it had 18 fireplaces with self-cleaning flues and an ice-cooled pantry. The wall panels are made from oak while the floors are laid with Fijian teak. Located in the West End, it has a stained-glass window with seashells and wildflowers adorning the framework that towers over the staircase from the main anteroom. The mansion also has a walk-in humidor and a wrought-iron fence made from the balconies of the old San Francisco city hall. Review © 2007, Wcities |
