Unforgettably magic event |
141-2050 Scotia St (Grandview Park) Vancouver, BC V5T 4T1 Canada +1 604 879 8611 http://www.publicdreams.org/ |
Magical. Spooky. Strange. Poetic. Those are just some of the words used to describe this original annual Halloween event. Every year on the Saturday before the scary holiday, this celebration honours the dead with a parade, fireworks and inspired spectacles. It looks to multicultural inspirations from the Day of the Dead to All Saint's Day to get all the ghouls and goblins out in full force. It's a procession of crazy costumes, lanterns, and choreography with torches and a fireworks finale. This is a free event. Review © 2007, Wcities |

The Original New Year's Day Icy Dive |
1050 Beach Avenue Vancouver, BC V6E 1T7 Canada |
This insane ritual of diving into the icy waters of English Bay on New Year's Day began in 1928. Peter Pantages, a Greek restaurateur, urged his swimming club members to act like polar bears and dive into the winter ocean (average temperature: 5ºC or 40ºF). Today, many people do it to raise money for charity. Whatever the reason, the event draws more than 2,000 costumed revellers, with thousands more watching at the sidelines. Vancouver's is the oldest and one of the largest in the world. Review © 2007, Wcities |
