900 West Lounge

Chic spot
900 West Georgia Street
Fairmont Hotel Vancouver
Vancouver, BC V6C 2W6
Canada
+1 604 684 3131
http://www.fairmont.com
One of Vancouver's most chic rooms is found in the lobby of the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. After a multimillion-dollar renovation, this elegant spot was reconstructed into a lounge and wine bar. The interior has glowing chandeliers and plush chairs, and the feel is one of a luxury ocean liner's dining room. The clientele is well-heeled and refined. The menu features signature dishes as well as West Coast and Asian fare. Examples include grilled veal medallions and prawns, and halibut marinated in miso and sake. There is a large selection of wines by the glass.

Vancouver, BC V6H 3R9
Canada
+1 604 687 1354
http://www.artsclub.com/onstag...
This lounge is a popular place for a creative crowd. Nightly shows make the watering hole a prime locale to enjoy live musical and comedy acts. The menu is predominantly West Coast-style cuisine: spicy chicken wings or large platters of nachos with dip are popular orders at less than CAD10. With the large variety of liquor lining the bar's back wall, it is obvious that drinks are this institution's specialty. Locally brewed ales are constantly in demand and worth a taste. See website for complete menu and monthly entertainment calendar.

Automotive Billiards Club

Trendy downtown pool bar
1283 Hamilton Street
Vancouver, BC V6B 2X5
Canada
+1 604 682 0040
http://www.automotivebilliards...
Due to a massive tear down in this spot's old location, the Automotive Billiards Club traded in its old home at a remodeled garage for these new digs up the road. The old rustic repair shop look has been replaced by an urban loft motif, with exposed ducts, trendy prints and other funky art work, and enough modish black leather sofas and chairs for an army of hipsters. Eight pool tables are scattered throughout the bi-level room. A well-stocked bar doles out local and imported beers, wine, and highballs to local young professionals from the neighborhood's high tech and film industries. It also serves sandwiches, salads and desserts.

This downtown Irish pub has all the fixings to make you feel as if you've transported yourself back across the Atlantic. Along with the classic pub facade, the all-wooden bar, and the dark lighting, this pub has also combined some American feel to it with regular Football and Baseball matches being shown as well as serving a wide variety of American cuisine that you'd only expect from a bar.

Canada

The Wedgewood Hotel's popular piano lounge is perennially voted the best bar in the city by critics. Named after the epicurean god of wine, it nearly begs you to imbibe in luxurious style. It has a large by-the-glass wine list and fine Italian cuisine. Drinks and nibblies will cost about CAD30. The decor is dark antique and flower-filled elegance, with soft lighting and a gently tinkling piano. The dance floor opens up from Thursday to Saturday and make sure you dress appropriately;casual attire is frowned upon.

Partnered with its uptown incarnation, Bin 942, this youthful establishment is packed full with old benches, church pews and 'found objects'. There are table-top literary quotes and black and white photographs of famous writers. Hot Water Music is a shrimp, scallop and salmon dish served with Udon noodles (CAD10). After closing its doors in the mid-1990s amid protests from patrons and famous musicians, the recently refurbished and re-opened ballroom is making a bouncy comeback - its dance floor lies atop tires that make everyone move. The 1,000-capacity venue, located downtown, has a history of amazing performances ranging from Dizzy Gillespie and Tina Turner to Nirvana and the Clash, along with modern artists like Stereolab and the Flaming Lips. Its location in the entertainment hub makes it a perfect place to see a show before going clubbing.

The decor is dark, enhancing the bright paintings that dress the walls and handmade lanterns that zigzag the ceiling. The menu reflects an eclectic mix of vegetarian and West Coast culinary style. This welcoming Gastown bistro is as close as you will get to Dublin in Vancouver. Specializing in whiskey and beer, it has been raved about since opening in 1998. Sit down to a small meal of Baked Hazelnut Crusted Goat Cheese (CAD7), or go for the bigger and more classic Bangers and Mash (CAD14). Dinners range from CAD13 to CAD18. Even James Joyce's favourite sandwich is on the menu. Enjoy live music that will keep your eyes smiling, whether they are Irish or not. Oddly enough the lunch menu becomes available again each night from 10PM-midnight.

Locus Cafe

Hip and happening cafe
4121 Main St
Vancouver, BC V5V 3P6
Canada
+1 604 708 4121
Visiting this cafe is similar to having central floor seating at a concert. As the one of the social hubs of the artistic Main Street community, it is the perfect perch for public voyeurism or temporary seclusion. The dark and cavernous single-room eatery has large wooden chapel-like booths in the rear and twisted iron fixtures at the front. Although it is renowned for its Calamari, there are many other items on the eclectic menu worth a taste, including the Roasted Half Chicken in a citrus-sambuca semiglaze sprinkled with cumin and coriander.

The front room is the most intimate, while the corner room, separated by a long bar, has a more relaxed air. From the lunch menu, try the Quesadillas with chicken breast (CAD6.95) or black bean, onion and bell pepper (CAD5.95). Burgers (CAD5.95-6.95), sandwiches (CAD5.50-6.95), and a Mediterranean Wrap (CAD6.95) are also popular.

The food is creative West Coast cuisine with international flavours and fusions thrown into the mix. The spicy fries are notable. There is an extensive wine and beer menu, with several prime local brews on tap.
