Touring Vancouver by water can be adventurous and is one of the best ways to see the area. Although the more daring can charter their own boats at places like Cooper Boating, companies like Harbour Cruises offer guided sightseeing cruises that let passengers view the city from Burrard Inlet, Howe Sound, Vancouver's harbour and English Bay.

B.C. Ferries can take you to the city's surrounding islands for great day trips, and the convenient SeaBus enables you to travel quickly to and from the downtown waterfront and the North Shore. Starline Boating Tours offer seasonal trips throughout the area. You can take a tour of the historic fishing village of Steveston, hop aboard the sea lion cruises in the spring, marvel on a killer whale watching expedition or relax on the Pitt Lake cruise.

Historically, the Granville Island was an industrial marine park. Today, the large collection of boats and charter services that dot the perimeter of the island reflect its strong maritime history. This company offers a slew of boating courses from sailing, power boating and marine courses. It has a Cruise & Learn program where passengers can spend a week on a first-class sailboat cruising through the Gulf Islands with a qualified instructor. If you want to charter, there is a selection of Catalina and Hunter sailing boats.

English Bay

Diverse Downtown Neighbourhood
Denman and Davie Streets
Vancouver, BC V6G 1Y9
Canada

English Bay is one of Vancouver's most diverse neighbourhoods. Located in downtown's West End, it's where the energetic action of Denman and Davie streets converges. The area is a popular venue for outdoor activities like in-line skating, cycling, walking the seawall, running, and jogging. There are bookstores, gift shops, fashion and cosmetic retailers and other specialty shops; and an eclectic fusion of culinary arts and eateries with clientele to match. Some of the city's best dine-with-a-view restaurants can be found here.

Vancouver is blessed with one of the world's most spectacular skylines, so see it from the ocean if you get the chance. The popular Sunset Dinner Cruise (CAD69.95 adults; CAD59.95 children 2-11) lets you take in the view over three hours while you dine on a gourmet buffet. If you prefer something short and sweet, take the Harbour Tour (CAD19 adults; CAD16 seniors and children 12-17; CAD7 children 5-11), a 75-minute narrated tour around the city. If you want to plan a special event or corporate function, you can charter a boat for 50-400 passengers.

This is the BC transit ferry service that links downtown to the beautiful North Shore, moving passengers between the bustling downtown core to the maritime city of North Vancouver. The journey takes only 12 minutes and even under adverse weather conditions, the system is extremely reliable. The system has two catamaran ferries, aptly named the Burrard Beaver and Burrard Otter. Each seats up to 400 and also allow bikes on board. North Vancouver's station is located next to great shopping, dining and the Lonsdale Quay Market.

Richmond
Vancouver, BC
Canada
http://www.steveston.bc.ca/
The area is characterized by its harbour and historical landmarks. Visit the Steveston Museum, the Britannia Heritage Shipyards or the Gulf of Georgia Cannery to get a sense of the area's maritime heritage and culture.

There are antiques and collectible shops, galleries, bakeries and gift shops. For dining, try the 3rd Avenue Pub or Shady Island Seafood Restaurant. If you want to relax, spend the afternoon walking along Steveston Landing or Garry Point Park. If visiting the village in June, try to catch the four-day Steveston Salmon Festival.
