Old wine bar with garden |
Piazza Ferretto, 70/B Venice, Veneto 30173 Italy +39 41 986100 http://www.alcalice.com/home.htm |
Situated in the centre of Mestre, this is one of the oldest wine bars in the area (it is about 100 years old). The two dining rooms are furnished in a classical style, with soft music playing in the background. There is a pretty garden at the back where you can enjoy your wine—selected from an excellent and extensive wine list. Delectable tidbits, to go along with the beverage of your choice, include sandwiches, fried vegetables, meatballs, hard-boiled eggs and fish. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Historical café in Piazza San Marco |
Piazza San Marco Venice 30124 Italy +39 41 520 5641 http://www.caffeflorian.com/ |
This café opened in 1720 and has a long history of feeding arts, culture and its adherents. It is easy to find, as it is in the middle of the piazza, underneath the Museo Correr and the Museo Archeologico. More refined than other cafés, the decor here is sumptuous and elegant. Summer sees outside tables and live music. The menu offers light meals, tea and cakes. Taste the best Sacher Torte in the city: a legacy of the Austrian occupation. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Venetian tavern |
Cannaregio - Rio Terà della Maddalena, 2329 Venice 30121 Italy +39 41 71 0376 |
The wine-drinking customers of this small old-fashioned Venetian tavern seem to be from a calmer era. The decor creates a cosy tavern atmosphere through the use of wood furnishings and fittings. On Thursdays and Sundays popular jazz concerts are held. Great for a quick sandwich and a glass of red wine—there are twenty or so local wines available which are perfect for a pre-dinner drink. Historical café in Piazza San Marco |
Piazza San Marco 121 Venice 30124 Italy +39 41 528 9299 http://www.venetia.it/quadri/ |
One of three historic cafés on Saint Mark's Square, the Gran Caffè Quadri has been a part of the Venetian experience since 1775. The atmosphere alone is worth the trip: luxurious surroundings inside and a live orchestra playing in the background. The opulent decor comprises Venetian chandeliers and mirrors. Now owned by the large Ligabue catering group, the service and food are excellent exquisite desserts, fine coffee and meals both carne and vegetable are served on fine porcelain.
