Otto Wagner-Platz Vienna 1090 |
The sturdy-looking Austrian National Bank was built by Leopold Bauer, a pupil of Otto Wagner's, and finished in 1925. During the four-power occupation of Austria after World War II the building was used as the US administrative HQ. In fact the ninth district and most of north-west Vienna was the American Sector and their embassy is located in the nearby Boltzmanngasse. A spectacular modern building has now been erected beside the neighbouring university campus with new printing facilities. Review © 2009, Wcities |
