On the southern side of Minoritenplatz is the Bundeskanzleramt, the offices and residence of the Austrian Chancellor. Built in 1717-19 by von Hildebrandt it was the scene of many of Metternich's meetings during the Congress of Vienna and became infamous in 1934 when the chancellor Dollfuss was assassinated in his office by Fascist conspiritors.
