The only significant sight in the districts south of the Gürtel is the Zentralfriedhof in the outskirts of Simmering. Generally speaking, it is an unattractive working-class suburb dominated by vast council flat buildings, ranging from the 1920s tenement housing to the huge council blocks-type of the 1980s and 1990s. The first signs of settlement in Simmering showed up in 1028 and a brewery was built in 1605, continuing to bring the area revenue for the next 300 years. Review © 2009, Wcities |
