Perhaps the most picturesque way to arrive or depart Vienna is by boat along the Danube. The main boat terminal is at Reichsbrucke, near the Vorgartenstrasse U-Bahn station. Ferries and hydrofoils sail daily to Passau, Bratislava, and Budapest from April through October, with additional sailings during July and August. A day trip to Bratislava is possible by travelling up the Danube from Vienna and returning by rail. The boats stop at many other towns along the Danube; check with the ticket office for details. Essentially a local transportation hub, the boats are clean and basic. For Danube pleasure cruises, visitors should go to the terminal at Schwedenplatz. Review © 2009, Wcities |
