Augarten Porzellan

Hand-made Viennese porcelain
Obere Augartenstrasse 1
Vienna, Vienna A-1021
Austria

Those looking to take something typically Viennese home with them should look no further. Founded in 1718, this Viennese porcelain manufacturer has been producing fine, hand-made china for almost three centuries. Two designs are particularly popular: the Viennese Rose (Wiener Rose) and Maria Theresia (green plants), which you can see on plates, cups, vases, ashtrays and candlesticks. The black and white art deco designs by Josef Hoffmann are also wonderful and represent the bridge to modern style.

This store carries only Bree handbags, purses, rucksacks, backpacks, and travel bags— all with classic and sophisticated style. You will not find gaudy colors, beads, embroidery or other superfluous embellishments, but timeless elegance which will never go out of style. Prices are quite reasonable. It is also quite easy to shop here as the store's décor is not cluttered with flashy displays— the merchandise is laid out conveniently along the walls and floor racks, there is plenty of aisle space to walk and browse.

Zegna may not be as popular as Armani, but the truly hip man will be familiar with this brand. Find classic cuts and designs, such as knitted black three quarter length coats, simple but sophisticated suits, and plain, woollen jumpers. Comfort is another of Zegna's priorities, with an emphasis on soft, wearable fabrics like cashmere, silk and mohair. They also stock an up market range of shirts, ties and accessories. Definitely for the discerning gentleman!

Meidlinger Haupstrasse

Main Street of Bargains
Meidlinger Haupstrasse
(at Pohlgasse)
Vienna
Austria
Hauptstrasse's – literally 'main streets' – can be found in almost every district of Vienna. Most are lined with trendy clothing and accessory shops, bookstores, cheap eats, and shoe stores. While Meidlinger Hauptstrasse is a far cry from the glitz and glam of downtown Vienna, if you're really looking for some good deals it's worth a walk down this street filled with discount stores and off-label goods. Not to worry, the regular fashion chains and a Starbucks await if you don't find your amazing deal of the day. - Christine Keene
