Humana

Cheap as cheap can
Wiedner Hauptstraße 23-25
Vienna, Vienna 1040
Austria
+43 (0)1 504 3056
http://www.humana.at/
You do need some time to find a good piece here, but sometimes it's really worth it! The shop offers clothes for women, men and kids, piled up in numerous shelves. Apart from the usual stuff, you can get bikinis, rompers, dirndls or trousers from the 70s. There is an easy explanation for that huge amount of clothes: Many people get rid of their old dresses by putting them into one of the "Humana"-containers which are put up all around town. The firm is supposed to support humanitarian projects in the developing countries with parts of the returns. A branch is at Mariahilfer Straße.

It's quite obvious that a University must be around: the streets are full of young people, books under their arms, hurrying to their next lesson. And indeed, the Lehrmittelzentrum lies on the ground floor of the Technical University. It was meant to be mainly a bookshop for students, but has turned into a place for real computer addicts. It offers specialized books and software. The branch at nearby Rilkeplatz focuses on architecture, chemistry and mathematics. And if the future technicians feel like reading an ordinary novel, no problem: Books from all German-and English-speaking countries can be ordered here!

If you like shopping at flea-markets, you will develop a soft corner for this little cubby-hole of a store-cum-café. Crammed with books, CDs and tons of other stuff, it gives off the air of a garage sale. Want to spruce up your home? Browse through some of the furniture on display. A bar and in-house restaurant only add to the mélange. Nevertheless, the place is well-kept and organized, with charming classroom-like coffee tables and chairs, where one can sip a cuppa while eyeing the goodies on offer.

Row, row, row your boat

Perhaps the most picturesque way to arrive or depart Vienna is by boat along the Danube. The main boat terminal is at Reichsbrucke, near the Vorgartenstrasse U-Bahn station. Ferries and hydrofoils sail daily to Passau, Bratislava, and Budapest from April through October, with additional sailings during July and August. A day trip to Bratislava is possible by travelling up the Danube from Vienna and returning by rail. The boats stop at many other towns along the Danube; check with the ticket office for details. Essentially a local transportation hub, the boats are clean and basic. For Danube pleasure cruises, visitors should go to the terminal at Schwedenplatz.

Quite large for a perfume and cosmetics store, here you will find innummerable brand names and literally hundreds of different perfumes, colognes, skin care/cosmetic products for both men and women. Famous names include Cerutti, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Elizabeth Arden, Lancome, Christian Dior, Shiseido, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger and many, many more! Prices are reasonable; although you won't find much under EUR14 the service is impeccable and the shopping is easy. Your only problem here will be deciding how many of each to buy!
