Wotruba Church

Modern Religious Architecture
Georgsgasse
Vienna 1230
+43 1 881 61 85
The church's name comes from its designer, Fritz Wotruba, and was built between the years 1965 and 1976 with a thoroughly modern flair. Located in the picturesque suburb of Mauer and very close to Vienna's woods, this church stands on a hill and calls to mind a modern sculpture on display at an art gallery. The inside of the church, while quite nice, is not particularly noteworthy. It is, however, quite a refreshing change from the heavy handed and baroque styled religious monuments and churches scattered throughout Vienna. It offers a "cleansing breath", which is particularly appropriate in it's country setting.
