A distinctly suburban feel pervades the historic, tree-lined Cleveland Park area. Development of the area began relatively late in the capital's history in 1894. It is said to have been named for President Grover Cleveland's summer visits at Red Top House (now demolished). The houses on view today date mostly from the 1894-1930 period. These residences and those built since are wonderful examples of national architectural styles. From buildings by Charles Adams Platt to Winthrop Faulkner, all are on view in a neighborhood that makes for pleasant late afternoon walking. Review © 2009, Wcities |
