On the third Monday in January, the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. is celebrated throughout the city with concerts, prayer vigils, choral, theater and dance performances, and readings and speeches by prominent civil-rights leaders and politicians. The annual event honoring the Civil Rights leader includes a wreath-laying ceremony at the Lincoln Memorial, which was the backdrop of King's inspirational "I Have a Dream" speech in 1963.
