Take a glorious sip-n-skip wine tour, which covers three of northern Virginia's most popular vineyards - Veramar, Breaux, and Piedmont. Begin the day in the Shenandoah Valley, with a visit to Veramar's luscious groves, hanging heavy with succulent, ripe grapes. The knowledgeable Italian-American owner shows off his crop with a flourish, and has no reservations when it comes to discussing his native wine-making procedures or at the free tasting events. At the 400-acre Breaux Estate, there's no mistaking the Mediterranean ambiance, which is enhanced in the tasting rooms. Chardonnay, Seyval Blanc, Vidal Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier may be sipped here, to the accompaniment of intelligent small talk. The last stopover is at the Piedmont Vineyards, known for being a pioneer in the state's commercial vinifera vineyards. A picnic on these rolling grounds would be in order, along with tasting events that involve bites, such as cheese and crackers. Bottles of excellent wines are snapped up quickly at these tours. Truly a day to remember!
