This plain jane serves up spicy specialities to the locals from its central location in the Eastbourne Village. Great for an inexpensive early evening meal following the long walk to Pencarrow Heads or Butterfly Creek. Review © 2007, Wcities |

One of the originals |
98-104 Victoria Street Wellington 6001 New Zealand +64 4 472 8706 |
This was the first tandoori restaurant in New Zealand (established in 1980) and remains a good choice for a classic Indian meal. It is small and sports an elegant, somewhat masculine, grey and black colour scheme - a pleasant change from the everywhere yellow of many other Wellington establishments. A wide range of traditional meat meals, such as Chilli Chicken and Lamb Suhi Korma, are offered and there is a good range of vegetarian dishes. The lunch time special of curry, naan and rice is hard to beat. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Purple paradise in Petone |
Corner of Queen & Jackson Streets Petone Wellington 6008 New Zealand +64 4 568 5226 |
This restaurant consistently dishes up delightful subcontinental favourites. The colourful decor--purple walls, decorated lampshades, Indian material-draped ceilings - sets the scene for an interesting night out with friends or family. Chicken, lamb and beef dishes are the order of the day though there are also vegetarian specials and the essential tandoori breads and curry condiments. Indian Kingfisher beer is available or try a Gisborne Gewurztraminer as an ideal accompaniment. Special three-course meals available Monday to Thursday. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Something for everyone |

This restaurant is highly recommended by Wellington's own galloping gourmand Des Britten. Try it if you are a lover of this fantastic cuisine. Contemporary decor set off by walls painted deep saffron gold creates a modern, lively and relaxed ambience. Offers a large selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian mains. There are also banquet menus that have a little of practically everything. Review © 2007, Wcities |
