A bookshop plus a little bit extra |
104 Micklegate York YO1 6JX United Kingdom +44 1904 62 3767 |
A favourite with locals and visitors, and situated not far from the ancient Micklegate Bar, this bookshop will tempt even the most abstemious. The shop itself is small and narrow but don't let this stop you browsing because one room just leads on into another. As well as tasteful greetings cards, there is a good selection of cut-price hardback and paperback books, beautiful reference books on art, history, biographies, fiction, children's books, cheap classics, and cookery books, not to mention a small selection of CDs and posters. For the tired and hungry, the vegetarian café at the back of the shop makes an excellent stop-off point. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Discount book store |
204 Designer Village Selby Road York YO19 4TA United Kingdom +44 1904 67 8868 |
This is a discount bookstore with a great selection of hard backs, paperbacks, audio books and CD ROMs. They cover most topics, from children's stories and comics to popular fiction and technology, so this shop is bound to have something that caters for most tastes. Some of their movie and TV tie-ins do have a tendency to be a little out of date, but as they reduce the price accordingly, who could complain at that? Review © 2007, Wcities |

50 Gillygate York YO31 7EQ United Kingdom +44 1904 61 0043 |
This second-hand bookshop is truly a treasure trove full of all the books you ever wanted to read and never got round to! Stacked from floor to ceiling; the shelves are in aisles so narrow you will have to squeeze your way to the book you are after, and you'll probably get so engrossed that you'll later wonder how on earth you could spend so long in one tiny space. Browse your way up the stairs and on to the next floor, and you're sure to find something of interest for you or for the children to read. And when you've read it, there's always a chance that they'll buy it back! Review © 2007, Wcities |

Stationery and bookshop chain |
39-41 Coney Street York YO1 9QL United Kingdom +44 1904 62 3106 http://www.whsmith.co.uk |
These premises, for the famous chain stationer and bookseller, were opened in 1977 and modernized with traditional York in mind. Original Georgian features, such as the staircase, were retained, as was the rear elevation of the eighteenth century house. However, there's nothing dated about the store's range of stock on two floors: pens, bestsellers, computer games, music, videos, greetings cards, revision guides, newspapers and magazines are all available. Also the very latest in children's toys, albeit limited. There is wheelchair access to ground floor and a service lift is available for access to the second floor. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Good books at low prices |
5 Church Street York YO1 8BG United Kingdom +44 1904 61 0277 |
Anyone who likes books but doesn't like paying over the odds for them, will immediately feel at home in this York branch of the discount book retailers. Many of the paperbacks and hardbacks on sale here are surprisingly recent, and their selection of classic novels are at give away prices. As well as books, they have recently branched out into CD ROMs as well as art equipment and children's toys. This is one of the rare occasions that a shop can genuinely claim to have something for everybody, at prices that everybody can afford. Review © 2007, Wcities |
