A treasure trove for all you bookworms |
50 Gillygate York YO31 7EQ United Kingdom +44 1904 61 0043 |
This second-hand bookshop is truly a treasure trove full of all the books you ever wanted to read and never got round to! Stacked from floor to ceiling; the shelves are in aisles so narrow you will have to squeeze your way to the book you are after, and you'll probably get so engrossed that you'll later wonder how on earth you could spend so long in one tiny space. Browse your way up the stairs and on to the next floor, and you're sure to find something of interest for you or for the children to read. And when you've read it, there's always a chance that they'll buy it back! Review © 2007, Wcities |

York's answer to women's issues |
42 Gillygate York YO31 7EQ United Kingdom +44 1904 62 5522 |
As the name suggests, this bookshop is concerned with women's issues, but that doesn't mean that the books inside are limited. There is a wide range of fiction and general books, as well as biography and social issues that are well arranged and easy to browse. There is a section entirely devoted to lesbian literature, and also a good range of greetings cards. Free tea, coffee or water is available, so help yourself while you make up your mind what to buy. All natural products |
1 Minster Gates York YO1 7HL United Kingdom +44 1904 67 0321 http://www.sharedearth.co.uk/i... |
This is the most amazing shop, which sells everything from clothing to cards. All of the products sold originate from Bali, Indonesia; where the local skilled craftsmen and women spend their lives making these wonderful objects, mainly from recycled and natural materials. Even the packaging is recycled. Here you can buy, beautifully carved items such as dolphins, cats, fish and even primitive Gods. The mobiles, candles, candle holders and tinkling chimes make the most fantastic gifts and presents but more than that, when you buy these products you take away with you a little piece of Bali, and that idyllic dream.
