How sweet shops should be - a real treat |
33 Goodramgate York YO1 7LS United Kingdom +44 1904 67 9672 http://www.thechocolatestore.c... |
This tiny shop is bursting with a huge variety of sweets and chocolates. Evoking memories of childhood, all the old favourites are available, including flying saucers, sugar mice, toffee teacakes and cola bottles. The sweets are displayed in large jars and are sold in small paper bags. There are novelty chocolates from gift-wrapped chocolate bars to chocolate cars and pigs. There is a wonderful selection of individual handmade Belgian and Swiss chocolates, as well as a good range of Yorkshire preserves. Ice cream and cold drinks are on sale too. This is such a charming little shop, so full of character, and it is only seconds away from the famous York Minster. Review © 2007, Wcities |

All good things come in small packages |

As with many of the best shops in York, and Minster Antiques is no exception, little and quaint often goes hand in hand with quality and good service. The space it occupies is very narrow and small but this tiny shop makes use of every inch of available space and is a virtual Aladdin's Cave of treasure, just waiting for the right buyer to come along. The staff are helpful, knowledgeable and friendly and are more than willing to give advice if needed. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Up-market antique shop |
36 Goodramgate York YO1 7LF United Kingdom +44 1904 63 8842 |
This is a very up-market antique shop, which, unlike most antique shops, is completely uncluttered and very selective with its displays. The visitor is met with a warm smile and a welcoming, friendly attitude. Everything from tables and clocks to ceramics and glass is sold here, and if the shop doesn't display what the visitor is looking for then they are assured that every effort will be made to acquire the article in question. Excellent gift shop |
32 Goodramgate York YO1 7LG United Kingdom +44 1904 65 9050 http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk |
The National Trust is a popular charity well known for its excellent conservation work throughout Europe. It has a first-class gift shop here in York where every penny you spend contributes towards the Trust's good work. The range is diverse, and is best described as a celebration of British art and design. Choose from a wide variety of gifts made in England including Blue Glass Ware from Bristol, and pottery from Darlington. There is a fine display of British talent with Reaction Jewelery, LoCo glass and Twisted glassware. All individual collections use a variety of traditional and modern methods to produce a stunning range of gifts. And not forgetting the children, there are gifts of chocolate dinosaurs and lots of small soft toys including some very cute finger puppets. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Quiet atmosphere |

This is a specialist bookshop with a difference; it sells only religious books. Here you can browse to your heart's content and find anything from Bibles to Saints, from Prayer Books to the History of Religion. The shop also sells cards, bookmarks and religious artefacts, which could perhaps be that very special gift that you were looking for. Upstairs on the first floor there is usually a special sale for bargain hunters. Books to suit at very low prices. Review © 2007, Wcities |
