This is a branch of the widespread greetings card chain, one of several throughout York, and those familiar with the stores will find this particular one bursting at the seams with souvenirs and novelties to take home with you. They have an extensive range of cards to suit all occasions, from weddings and anniversaries to bereavements and even, as the name of the shop suggests, birthdays. They also stock wrapping paper, gift tags, decorative ribbons and have a large selection of fluffy toys, most of which are embroidered with greetings messages.

Manor Prints and Pottery

Picturesque Shambles
The Shambles Gallery
10 The Shambles
York YO1 7LZ
United Kingdom
+44 1904 65 6470
Set in the famous, picturesque Shambles in the centre of York, this gallery is quite special. Not only does it have a wonderful display of Prints and Pottery for sale but if you speak to the owner nicely he will tell you the history of the gallery. He will point out the Priest Hole in the corner of the room and tell you about the days when it was a medieval butchers shop [all the original trappings are still hanging from the ceiling] and then perhaps he'll describe how Margaret Clitheroe was "pressed to death" in the cellar. So, if you visit the Shambles Gallery you may go home with more than just a superb print or hand made pottery, you'll have visited a little piece of history as well.

There is a fine display of British talent with Reaction Jewelery, LoCo glass and Twisted glassware. All individual collections use a variety of traditional and modern methods to produce a stunning range of gifts. Newgate Market

York's traditional open-air market
Newgate
York YO1
United Kingdom
+44 1904 55 1355
The open-air market has survived in York for centuries, although the move to its present location is quite recent. Now bordered by the Shambles, Parliament Street and Church Street, it is at the very heart of the city. Although the individual stalls do vary from day to day, you can be sure of colour, variety and a relaxed shopping experience. Butchers and Fishmongers have their spot by the Patrick Pool entrance. Whilst one stall sells specialty cheeses, another sells Italian bread and cakes, and along with fruit, vegetable and flower stalls, they all offer fresh produce and excellent value. Rolls of fabric, various clothing stalls and a hat seller can be found just off the Shambles. Bric-a-brac, second-hand books and handicrafts also have their place.

Shared Earth

All natural products
1 Minster Gates
York YO1 7HL
United Kingdom
+44 1904 67 0321
http://www.sharedearth.co.uk/i...
This is the most amazing shop, which sells everything from clothing to cards. All of the products sold originate from Bali, Indonesia; where the local skilled craftsmen and women spend their lives making these wonderful objects, mainly from recycled and natural materials. Even the packaging is recycled. Here you can buy, beautifully carved items such as dolphins, cats, fish and even primitive Gods. The mobiles, candles, candle holders and tinkling chimes make the most fantastic gifts and presents but more than that, when you buy these products you take away with you a little piece of Bali, and that idyllic dream.
