If you want to look sporty |
12 Coney Street York YO1 9NA United Kingdom +44 1904 64 0722 http://www.allsports.co.uk |
Although this store sells more sports fashion items than actual sports equipment, there is plenty to choose from. And for those that insist upon worshiping at the red altar, there is a whole section devoted to Manchester United merchandise. There is a slightly antiseptic quality to the air here, counterbalanced by the rubber of all the boots and trainers. If such things don't faze you, then you will find this shop an ideal place to visit, especially if you just want to look sporty. Anyone wanting to actually physically do some sport may want to look elsewhere. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Great camping equipment |
23 Colliergate York YO1 8BN United Kingdom +44 1904 65 4979 http://www.blacks.co.uk/ |
Located on the edge of the city centre, this is a fairly large camping and outdoor pursuits centre. They are well stocked with camping equipment and accessories and their prices are very reasonable. They sell everything a budding mountaineer could possibly want, such as torches and camping stoves, as well as that most essential of items, Kendal Mint Cake! Their staff are eager to be helpful but are never overbearing, which is certainly a blessing. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Skateboarding & rollerblading equipment |
5 Whip Ma Whop Ma Gate York YO1 8BL United Kingdom +44 1904 65 1866 http://www.exit.uk.com |
It's like "Back to the Future" only happened yesterday. For the budding Tony Hawks out there, this is the one stop shop for all your skateboarding needs. As well as boards, blades and scooters there are the obligatory clothes to match. Those who like their trousers extra-wide will be particularly at home here as they are well-stocked with plenty of obscure American labels at prices that, at first glance, you might think were in dollars. Sports equipment and accessories |
3 Coney Street York YO1 9QL United Kingdom +44 1904 63 2703 |
This is a large sports equipment store, built on two floors and located right in the middle of York. They have an impressive range of footwear and sports fashion items, but strangely enough, they are one of the few sports shops in York that stock darts and darts accessories. Though by no means large, the selection of flights are of particular note for their excellent designs. The staff are friendly and helpful, thankfully not displaying that vacant stare so fashionable amongst shop staff these days, and they seem to be well informed when answering any questions. 11 Spurriergate York YO1 9NJ United Kingdom +44 1904 62 7948 |
If you are, as the song says, "pretty fly for a white guy," then this is the store for you. Stocked to the brim with sports fashion ware; there are enough baseball caps and basketball tops here to clothe a dozen rap music videos, and perhaps even a few genuine athletes too. Most major labels are catered for, although interestingly, this is predominantly Nike territory. If you are a fan of American sports, then this is your chain store of choice. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Soccer equipment and accessories |
13 High Ousegate York YO1 8RZ United Kingdom +44 1904 61 3489 |
Located in the middle of York, this is a small sports equipment store within easy reach of most of the city's major shops and attractions. They are quite well stocked and sell a range of sporting goods, from footballs to referees' whistles. The staff could be a little more helpful, but for the most part they seem to know what they are talking about. There is a wide selection of sporting footwear available, although the shop doesn't cater well for those requiring large sizes. Review © 2007, Wcities |
