This two-day cycling event is held in June each year on the broad expanse of York's famous Knavesmire racecourse. The rally has everything for the cycling enthusiast, featuring both the latest mountain and road models, test tracks and tuition, frame building, health and fitness, time trials and track racing. There will also be escorted rides into the countryside, exhibitions and sales, races and vintage bike displays. More than 20,000 people have gathered for the festivities in the past. York's annual carnival is held with a full day of partying. Among the activities planned by community groups and associations all over York are barn dances, barbecues and street parties, all with the aim of raising money for local Hospice charities, as well as having a good time! The Carnival Parade is a colorful medieval costumed event open to all. Those wishing to participate in this year's Carnival should ring the Carnival hot-line to find out about costume-making workshops. Admission to the carnival activities is free.
