Miwok and Paiute artifacts in Yosemite Valley |
Yosemite Museum (Yosemite Village) Yosemite, CA 95389 United States +1 209 372 0200 http://www.yosemite.org/index.... |
The Miwok and Paiute people were, and are, the true natives of the Yosemite Valley. This exhibit gives real insight into the way they lived back in the 1850s, and it traces their history and culture from that time to the present. In addition to the displays, there are often demonstrations of basket weaving, beadwork and traditional games. You will also learn the unsavory ways in which early white settlers treated the people of this region. This exhibit is free. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Educational center |
Curry Village Loop (Curry Village) Yosemite, CA 95389 United States +1 209 372 4542 http://www.sierraclub.org/educ... |
The original visitor center for Yosemite National Park, this lodge is now an educational center. The emphasis is, of course, on the park. The children's corner has a variety of interactive, mostly environment-oriented activities, as well as a library. On many evenings, the lodge is used for club gatherings, which may be open to the public, and environmental education events, which are always open to the public. The lodge itself is a good example of Yosemite's original buildings. Admission to the lodge is free. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Artists of the Sierras |
40982 Highway 41 Yosemite, CA 93644 United States +1 559 683 3345 http://www.timberlineartgaller... |
One of the oldest in the area, this gallery features works by artists who live in the Sierras. The surprising variety of works include stained glass, metal sculpture and woodcarvings, as well as oil and watercolor paintings. Many of the works reflect the beauty of Yosemite and the Sierra Mountains, but you may also see a modern still life or charming acrylic penguins. In other words, delightful surprises await you here. Yosemite Village Loop (west of the main post office in Yosemite Village) Yosemite, CA 95389 United States +1 209 372 0200 http://www.yosemite.org/visito... |
Make this your first stop to discover all the park has to offer. In addition to information about Ranger Programs, bear conditions, location of attractions and other visitor information, the center acts as a sort of gallery, with displays that change each year. For example, you might see an audiovisual presentation on the splendor of the valley, or an exhibit of Native American arts and crafts, or you might even take part in a discussion about future plans for the park. The compound includes an auditorium along with various exhibit spaces. Review © 2007, Wcities |

Located in Coarsegold, about 25 miles from Yosemite's south entrance, this can be a fun stop on your way to or your way from the park. Pan for real gold in the Gold Gulch Museum and get a real sense of the history of the Gold Rush era. There is a living history tour of the Sierras. See the photos and then buy quality gifts in the gallery. There is a room called Indian Territory where you will find Native American crafts as well as photos and paintings with that theme. Gold panning lessons include the equipment needed to try your luck at panning for gold. There is not a charge to take the self-guided tour of the museum. Review © 2007, Wcities |
